Developmental edit

Fix the big picture

What do you mean by big picture?

You have completed at least one redraft of the manuscript and received input from beta readers, what next?.

Stage one: the developmental edit.

A development edit seeks to look at the macro. Does everything make sense? Is it consistent? Are the characters and their arcs engaging?

Whether we're finessing an internal character arc, or reworking significant elements of the plot, when we're finished you will have a coherent and compelling manuscript.

So, what's included?
  • Macro plot review
  • Character assessment
  • Pacing review
  • Prose feedback
  • Editorial assessment
  • Regular progress updates

The turnaround for a developmental edit is typically 3-4 weeks depending on length, and includes delivery of an in-depth assessment of the manuscript.

Are you ready to take your manuscript to the next level?

Line edit

One line at a time

What is a line edit, and how is it different to a dev edit?

Where a developmental edit looks at the big picture, a line edit looks at the sentence flow, word choice and prose.

A line edit will make comment on plot issues should they arise, but for an in-depth assessment, a dev edit is the edit for you.

When you are happy everything makes sense and you're ready to make the manuscript read and flow like the best seller it has the potential to be, it's time for a line edit.

So, what's included?

In essense, a line edit is a line-by-line review of your manuscript which covers:

  • Spelling, grammar and punctuation corrections
  • Sentence structure and word choice feedback and suggestions
  • In-line changes and comments
  • Prose feedback
  • Marked-up manuscript using MS Word track changes or equivalent
  • Regular progress updates

Turnaround for a line edit is typically 3-4 weeks depending on length.

Proofread

Department of corections corrections

I know what a proofread is...

Typically the final stage of editing, a proofread is a word-by-word review of the manuscript, capturing those spelling and grammatical errors that the folks over at Grammarly haven't quite figured out how to locate.

  • Dingy or dinghy?
  • Breath or breathe?
  • Comma or semicolon?

Well, let me tell you!

A proofread typically takes 2-3 weeks to turnaround and includes a marked-up manuscript using MS Word track changes or equivalent. All projects include regular progress updates.

Let's get that manuscript ready for formatting!
